When I requested in 2008 the original, complete record be send to me since it was created by virtue of my existence and therefore my property I was advised they cannot do that. The originals are kept in a vault and are the property of the State. When I asked, in refusing to give me the originals is the Vital Statistics office stating that State of Ohio owns the record, owns the name and duly created it> Answer was yes
Howie, what is the difference between the birth certificate and a certificate of live birth? I get a certificate with seal is evidence of a copy of the original. I have never seen a birth certificate only a COLB. When I requested a birth certificate from Ohio they only issue COLB's.
